Read attentively

When I was little, my grandfather always used stories like "hanging one's head from the beam and pricking one's thigh with an awl," "borrowing light by chiseling a hole in the wall," and "studying by the light of snow" to encourage me to study hard. At that time, I was clueless and didn't understand why. It wasn't until I entered society and began to understand the world that I grasped the profound meaning of "studying." Books are silent sages; though they are wordless, they teach us how to be a person, and what kind of person we should be.

Reading attentively can lead to love. From the poem, "By day they weed the fields, by night they spin hemp; the village children each take charge of their own affairs. Even the young grandchildren, not yet understanding farming and weaving, learn to plant melons under the shade of mulberry trees," we can read the love of rural men, women, and children for their labor. From the poem, "Departing from Baidi City amidst colorful clouds at dawn, I return to Jiangling a thousand miles away in a single day. The cries of monkeys on both banks cannot be stopped; my light boat has already passed countless mountains," we can read the author's deep longing for the beautiful landscapes of his motherland.

Reading attentively can also lead to emotion. Li Bai's line, "The Peach Blossom Pool is a thousand feet deep, but it cannot compare to Wang Lun's affection for me," vividly expresses the depth of friendship; Bai Juyi's lines, "We are both wanderers from the ends of the earth, why should we need to have known each other before?" imbue the fleeting encounters in life with a more human touch.

Books are an ocean of the spirit, a vast land. Swimming in the sea of books, one can witness Lu Xun's profound knowledge and insightful thinking; appreciate Lin Yutang's lighthearted humor and witty style; savor Zhu Ziqing's freshness, naturalness, and enduring simplicity; and learn from Mao Zedong's bold spirit and profound erudition.

"Read ten thousand books, and your writing will flow like a god's." Li Minbao, a farmer-writer from Guangfa Town, Jiahe County, has lived in seclusion in the mountains for 20 years, far from the hustle and bustle, spending his days with a hoe and his nights with a pen. He treats reading as leisure, consistently reading 30,000 words daily for decades, ultimately producing millions of words of literary works. Reading has filled Li Minbao's life with wisdom and joy.

Some say that the essence of a book is also the "heart"—the heart of philosophers, great men, and wise men. Reading attentively is a communication and exchange between hearts. Reading attentively—reading ethics, reading nature, reading the world—allows the true meaning of life to permeate one's soul. In the quiet of the night, holding a book, surrounded by the gentle glow of the night sky, gazing at the twinkling stars, reading the works of sages past and present is like sitting and conversing with them; what a wonderful feeling!
